CAROLINE SHELDON

Caroline Sheldon ran her own literary agency for 40 years, representing multiple award-winning authors in the fields of children’s books and general fiction. She now works as a consultant with the leading literary agency Rogers, Coleridge & White.

Caroline founded the Caroline Sheldon Literary Agency in 1985, building an outstanding list of authors and illustrators over four decades. In January 2024, the agency became part of Rogers, Coleridge & White, with Caroline continuing to represent and support a number of her longstanding clients.

Her clients have included some of the most recognised names in children’s publishing, among them Julia Donaldson, Joseph Coelho, Patrice Lawrence and Yuval Zommer, and the authors and illustrators she has represented have received numerous major literary awards.

SPECIAL EVENT | PUBLISHING PANEL

What makes a literary agent sit up and take notice — and what turns a manuscript into a publishing career?

With four decades at the heart of British publishing, Caroline Sheldon brings an extraordinary depth of experience to the publishing panel. Having represented award-winning writers and illustrators across children’s books and general fiction, she will offer an agent’s perspective on discovering new talent, developing authors and navigating the relationship between writer, agent and publisher.

For aspiring writers in particular, this is a chance to hear from someone who has spent a career recognising potential: what agents look for, what makes a submission stand out, and how the publishing landscape has changed over the past 40 years.

Caroline will be holding the panel conversation with marketing specialist Emma Oulton and writer & poet Lily Blacksell.
