JEAN G-OWEN
Dr Jean G-Owen is the founder of Naked Figleaf Press and its imprint, Figmentum Books. She is a writer, publisher, editor and performer. In 2024, she established The Figlet, a vibrant literary magazine showcasing Isle of Wight writers and illustrators. She also curates events including In Their Own Words and Figarama: The Write Way, creating spaces in which written and spoken performance can be celebrated.
Jean holds a doctorate in Cultural Studies and Humanities, and her academic background informs both her creative work and her approach to publishing. In 2025, she established Figmentum Folio, a digital literary folio encompassing fiction, essays, poetry, visual culture and reflective criticism.
As a writer, Jean’s work crosses poetry, prose, cultural commentary and experimental forms. Her books include Wyuen Pyne: A Reckoning of Women’s Voices, Between the Brown Banks: A London Lyric, Killing Your Darlings, Bites of Loveand The Pain of Glass.

Join Dr Jean G-Owen and Naked Figleaf Press at the Isle of Wight Literary Festival for the launch of The Figlet – Issue Six, celebrating the wealth of writing and artistic talent here on the Island.
Founded by Jean in 2024, The Figlet is the Isle of Wight’s literary magazine, bringing together poetry, short stories, essays, articles and visual work from writers and illustrators with Island connections. Each issue combines themed work with general submissions, giving a platform to both established writers and emerging voices.
Issue Six brings together the work of 60 Isle of Wight writers and illustrators, showcasing the remarkable breadth and creativity of the Island’s literary community. Its featured theme, “Fair or Foul”, invites contributors to interpret the idea through poetry, prose, articles, artwork, photography and anecdote.
Come along, meet some of the writers and creatives behind the magazine and celebrate the launch of its sixth issue at Write on Wight, Isle of Wight Literary Festival.
