KIT KEMP MBE

Kit Kemp MBE is an internationally acclaimed British interior designer, author, and the founder and creative force behind the Kit Kemp Design Studio and the award-winning Firmdale Hotels, which she established with her husband, Tim, in 1985.

Firmdale now spans eleven properties across London and New York. Known for her fearless use of colour, exquisite layering of pattern, and an eye for the unexpected, Kemp has become a global icon in interior design, treating every space she creates as a richly woven story of texture, craft, and individuality. Design Stories is her fifth book, and her first with Rizzoli.

Kit Kemp | Design Stories

With her unapologetic use of colour, exquisite layering of pattern, and an eye for the unexpected, Kit Kemp has revolutionised contemporary interior design. In her first Rizzoli monograph, she invites readers into her imaginative world, revealing how she transforms interiors into richly woven stories of texture, craft, and individuality.

Kemp's spaces are more than rooms — they are experiences, each one a vibrant tapestry of art, antiques, and bespoke detail. Her signature aesthetic blends craft and sophistication in unexpected ways: embroidered headboards meet hand-painted wallpapers, ikat-covered cushions sit alongside twentieth-century art, and every corner holds a moment of magic. The book draws on some of her most striking projects, from her own home and her daughter's mews house in London, to her Firmdale hotels in Barbados, London, and New York, including the newly opened Warren Street in TriBeCa — several created alongside her daughters Willow and Minnie, who now work as design directors within her studio.

Brimming with stunning photography by Simon Brown, Design Stories is more than a design book — it is an invitation to break free from the ordinary and create interiors that reflect personality, passion, and a true sense of place.
