A Field Guide to the Fossils and Geology of the Isle of Wight

A Field Guide to the Fossils and Geology of the Isle of Wight offers a welcoming and informative introduction to one of the UK’s most fossil-rich landscapes.

Written by local palaeontologist Megan Jacobs, it supports readers in exploring the Island’s unique geology and prehistoric past — whether visiting for the first time or developing a long-standing interest.

Designed with both clarity and practicality in mind, the guide is suitable for use in the field and offers a step-by-step approach to understanding local rock formations and identifying fossils. It covers key locations across the Island, combining clear explanations with helpful visuals to make complex topics easier to grasp.

Whether used by students, amateur fossil hunters, or families keen to learn more about the past beneath their feet, this guide brings the Isle of Wight’s deep history to life in an accessible and enjoyable way.
