MIRANDA GORE-BROWNE
Miranda Gore Browne was a finalist on the first series of The Great British Bake Off, where she was highly praised for her home baking, described consistently as both delicious and beautiful. Mary Berry said that Miranda “reminded her of herself when she was younger”, while Paul Hollywood said he would have “happily served” her iced biscuits at The Dorchester. Miranda also featured in BBC Two’s The Great British Wedding Cake.
Before moving into food writing and baking full-time, Miranda enjoyed a successful career in Foods at Marks & Spencer, gaining a wide base of knowledge and expertise in the food industry.
She has since established a reputation for simple home baking, teaching, demonstrating and creating recipes for organisations including The National Trust, Squires Kitchen, Hobbycraft, Kenwood, The Cake and Bake Show and West Dean College. Her down-to-earth and friendly style brings the best out of even the most nervous or inexperienced bakers.
Miranda is the author of Biscuit, which celebrates the Great British biscuit, and Bake Me a Cake as Fast as You Can. She is a member of the Guild of Food Writers and Les Dames d’Escoffier.
As Food Columnist for NFU Countryside Magazine, Miranda champions seasonal and Great British food, supporting British farming and encouraging simple home cooking with local ingredients. Her love of seasonal traditions, food as a way to celebrate and the importance of making memories runs throughout her work.
Miranda is also fascinated by nature, the outdoors, the seasons and the wild. Through her concept The Mindful Kitchen, she uses food, cooking, baking, poetry and mindfulness to enhance wellbeing, while The Seaside Kitchen connects children with food and the coast through hands-on outdoor learning.
Her connection with the Isle of Wight runs through her family history. Miranda’s father was from the Island, her grandfather ran Roman’s Farm Dairy, delivering milk and cream across the Isle of Wight, while her grandmother ran a much-loved garden tearoom in Shanklin, known for homemade cakes, scones and cream from the family dairy.
Miranda lives in the heart of the South Downs National Park and can often be found exploring the coast and countryside with her three children and their yellow Labrador, Miss Potter.
